Description

Role of the Link Rod in R80 Excavators

The link rod—also referred to as the bucket link or bucket arm connector—is a key joint in the working group of the Hyundai R80. It connects the bucket cylinder to the bucket linkage, enabling the bucket to tilt and scoop with controlled force.

In compact and medium-duty operations such as residential digging, utility trenching, or foundation work, the R80’s linkage system sees high movement frequency. The link rod must maintain precise articulation and resist backlash or deformation across thousands of cycles. A worn or poorly manufactured rod could cause hydraulic inefficiency, uneven bucket wear, and loss of digging accuracy, especially in confined or sloped jobsites.

High-Strength Forging for Lasting Performance

Each R80 link rod is forged from Q345B or Q235B steel, selected based on your project demands. For heavier-duty applications like dense clay or compacted backfill, Q345B is preferred for its:

  • Higher yield strength
  • Better impact resistance
  • Superior fatigue life under repetitive loading

Forging also helps eliminate weak points, such as porosity or grain discontinuity, which are common in cast or low-grade fabricated components. The result is a structurally stable part that withstands high-pressure cycles and torsional stress.

CNC Machining & Anti-Rust Treatment

After forging, the component is CNC-machined at key interfaces—specifically the pin bores, bushing seats, and joint surfaces.
To protect the part from environmental degradation, it receives one of two surface finishes:

  • Shot-blasting + primer coating for general-use scenarios
  • E-coating (electrophoretic coating) for wet, corrosive, or coastal environments

This added protection is critical in preventing rust, abrasion, and surface pitting, especially during off-season storage or long-term field use.

Pre-Machining Storage

After forging and rough shaping, each link rod is properly stored in preparation for precision machining and heat treatment. These solid, semi-finished parts are neatly arranged in batches — showcasing both our forging strength and our ability to manage stable, large-scale production.

Link rod packing

Export-Ready Packaging

After completing all machining, quality checks, and anti-corrosion treatment, each finished link rod is carefully packed using reinforced pallets or wooden crates. This ensures safe handling and long-distance transport. Every package is clearly labeled for easy tracking, and logo or barcode customization is available upon request.

Fitment Range

This link rod is fully compatible with:

  • Hyundai R80-7 / R80-9 / R80CR-9 / R80-7A
  • Hyundai Robex 80 Series with standard bucket linkage

Application Scenarios: Built for Extreme Work

The R80 is a versatile excavator widely used in:

  • Urban roadworks and sidewalk trenching
  • Agricultural land preparation
  • Residential foundation excavation
  • Utility and telecom line installation

These tasks often involve frequent bucket cycling, side wall digging, and tight turning radii, all of which place significant demands on the linkage assembly. Our R80 link rods ensure consistent joint alignment and prevent bucket tilt lag, even under angled or offset loads.

Maintenance Advice for Long-Term Use

To extend the life of your link rod and the entire working group:

  • Lubricate pin joints every 250–500 working hours
  • Replace pins and bushings together with the rod to ensure balanced fit
  • Inspect for bore elongation, play, or rust every service interval
  • Avoid using the bucket for prying or side pressure—this stresses the linkage
