Project Background – Mining Excavator Requires Swing Bearing Replacement

A mining contractor contacted KINTON PARTS after experiencing serious swing performance issues on their Caterpillar CAT 385C excavator, which had been operating under heavy-duty conditions for several years.

Problem Identified – Excessive Swing Play and Abnormal Noise

The machine plays a key role in continuous mining operations, so minimizing downtime was critical for the customer.

During inspection, the customer’s maintenance team reported:

  • Increased swing clearance
  • Abnormal rotation noise
  • Reduced operational stability
  • Wear on the slewing bearing raceway

These issues began affecting work efficiency and machine safety, making slewing bearing replacement unavoidable.

Installation Process – Smooth Replacement on Site

Loosen and remove the slewing bearing connecting bolts gradually in a diagonal sequence, using an impact wrench or pneumatic wrench. Slowly lift the old slewing bearing assembly using hoisting equipment. After removing the old bearing, thoroughly clean both support surfaces and inspect for cracks, deformation, or wear.

Install the new slewing bearing

Install the new slewing bearing

Use hoisting equipment to align the new bearing with the holes and slowly place it in the correct position.

Tighten the bolts

Tighten the slewing bearing bolts

Manually install all bolts, then tighten them one by one in a diagonal sequence to the recommended torque value.

Add grease

Fill with slewing bearing grease

Add grease inside the slewing bearing, ensuring complete lubrication.

Mount the excavator upper body to the chassis

Assemble the upper section and chassis

Slowly lower the upper body to the chassis, confirming accurate positioning before tightening the connecting bolts.

Final Result – Machine Back to Work with Stable Performance

After replacement, the machine showed:

✔ Smooth swing rotation
✔ No abnormal noise
✔ Improved operating stability
✔ Reduced vibration
✔ Increased jobsite productivity

The customer expressed satisfaction and confirmed future cooperation for undercarriage and hydraulic spare parts supply.
